The walk in Calasparra was on Wednesday 13th May. In spite of the sudden rise in temperature, the Adapt Adventure Hill walkers did a circular walk from the Sanctuario de Nuestra Senora de Esperanza. We followed the Rio Segura to the flooded rice paddy fields, where they grow the famous Calasparra rice for paellas.  Then we headed back inland before rejoining the Rio back to the Sanctuario. Although we were a small group, we were accompanied on the walk by a few thousand small flies! It was that time of year and with the paddy fields flooded, the nuisance factor rose for a time before we moved inland. Nevertheless, it was a good day and when we finished the walk, as always, we had a delicious menu del dia. This was the last walk until October. The next group of walks will be scheduled and advised in September and they will be closer to San Pedro in terms of travel time.
