Adapt San Pedro

Carnival time!

This year’s Carnival theme for the ADAPT group (English speakers of San Pedro del Pinatar) was Guild of Prawns of the Mar Menor  A tastier dish you never saw!Members dressed up as prawns and fishermen and paraded through the streets of the town, along with many other spectacular groups and floats.  The carnival has been one of the ways in which Adapt has joined in local activities over recent years and has always been greatly appreciated by the spectators and participants alike.

San Pedro Carnival 2019

The San Pedro Carnival is fast approaching and this year will be taking place on Sunday, 3rd March 2019. The Carnival will start in the centre of San Pedro Del Pinatar at 17:00 and will work it’s way down to the square in Lo Pagan.

Our Carnival Group will be flying the ADAPT banner and will be using the theme of Langostinos del Mar Menor. Come along and cheer us on an enjoy the Spanish carnival tradition.

If you would like more information regarding the Carnival Group or would like to get involved, please email ADAPT.carnival@gmail.com

Fighting the Gripe

14 people led by Christina Mena participated in this year’s carnival. The theme was ‘Fighting the Gripe” which was very apt, as this year we have had one of the worst outbreaks of flu. Fortunately the virus that  took part was not contagious. Adapt members are always proud to take part in this very traditional event.

Carnival

AT LAST ……our big day arrived, following many weeks of practise and hard work.  Sunday 26th February San Pedro del Pinatar Carnaval and the ADAPT Carnaval Group were rehearsed and ready.

23 ADAPT members with an average age of 65 years and an estimated total years of 1,500 undertook the challenge of walking, dancing, spinning umbrella’s for almost three hours walking over 10,000 steps (accordinging to the pedometer!)

The hustle and bustle on arrival at the start was full of excitement and noise.  A tremendous atmosphere and cacophony of sound as everyone participating of all ages came together.  Beautiful colourful costumes with feathers and sparkles surrounded our blue and red poncho’s, but we were to save our piece de resistance until the sun went down.

We were to follow the Dragon Boat and once we had donned our sparkly boots we lined up read
y for the off. We walked and waved and waved and walked and the people of San Pedro lined the streets  young and old having a good time.

As late afternoon came we pressed the button on our umbrella’s (not necessarily all together!) and our light sabre’s illuminated our way!  The effect was impressive and our red and blue umbrella’s going up and down seemed to drawer  attention.

Finally we arrived at the end of our journey ………. A little weary but happy to have achieved what we set out to do and experience the joy of being invited to join in a very special Spanish tradition.

This year we didn’t win a prize but we were delighted that the San Pedro del Pinatar Pensionista’s took third prize – Congratulations.

Adapt Win 3rd Prize

The  Crusaders took to the streets of San Pedro to take part in the 2016 San Pedro Carnival. 24 members  of ADAPT braved the cold February weather to take part. Marching proudly and brandishing their weapons, they put on a fine display and were well practised with a fearsome drill and sword fighting amongst each other and occasionally with the crowds of onlookers, who lined the streets all the way from the start to the port at Lo Pagan.

They were rewarded for their impecable display by winning 3rd Prize.

Well done

San Pedro Carnival

The San Pedro Carnival was as usual a big hit and was well supported and thoroughly enjoyed by the public and participants.

We are honoured each year by being invited to take part in the Carnival. As usual it was a great success and the ADAPT association was well represented by a contingent of ´ Mexicans´ .
