The main speakers at the February monthly ADAPT meeting were Dolores and Begoña from the San Pedro based association El Samaritano. Celia Drinkall introduced them by explaining the history of ADAPT`s involvement with this charity which goes back over eight years, and Begoña then talked about their current work helping families in need. Proceeds from the ADAPT annual Pantomime plus member’s monthly food donations are able to support families who often are unable to gain assistance from other sources or where assistance such as from the European food bank is not sufficient to meet all their needs.
Each month Dolores and Begoña email Celia with a shopping list of essentials needed by the families to top up the members donations. These items are delivered directly to the family’s homes by the charity. As far as members’ donations are concerned, tinned and dried foods, pasta, rice, cooking oil, pulses, long life full milk, cleaning materials, toiletries, washing powder are much appreciated.
Families in receipt of support are always made aware this assistance was coming directly from English speaking members of the community and families were extremely appreciative of the help given. At Christmas, extra donations are given and presents are prepared for the children.
This year ADAPT had also decided to give additional support with sanitary and baby care products using funding from the 2018 raffle.
