They may not be bi-lingual yet but some of the children of San Pedro del Pinatar are getting to grips with learning the English language. The summer school is a regular event offered every year to local children and is designed to help working parents as well as keeping the children occupied over the summer months. This year is the first year that the voluntary scheme with native English speakers has been suggested, so it really is a pilot scheme. For three days every week during July and August children aged from 3 to 11 are being taught English through various activities organised by Adapt volunteers. This is done through ball games, colouring pictures, making puppets and singing nursery rhymes with all the arm actions involved. The 3 to 4 year olds especially enjoyed doing the hokey-cokey. The schools - Los Antolinos and Maspalomas - have Spanish monitors supervising the groups so there is always someone on hand to help with your Spanish.
